Biography:
Sacalapa Talaaja (b. 2004) is a Venezuelan artist exploring preconceptions about faith, politics, nightlife, amongst other themes.
His work is connected across media by processes of taking apart and recombining. Said processes draw on different disciplines, ranging from building everyday furniture with gothic structural logic, to interrupting photojournalism with a glitching camera. Through these, he arrives at compositions where individual elements remain recognisable, while the relationships between them become harder to explain.
Talaaja was raised between Caracas, Panama City, and Madrid. He is currently pursuing a BA (Hons) Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London, where he is developing installations alongside his paintings, photographs, and other media.
